Travel Information

Seasonal Travel

Peak Season

Dry season: 1 May to 30 September

This is peak Kimberley travel time and our busiest period. The Gibb River Road and gorge tracks are typically open, weather is dry and stable, and campgrounds like Bandilngan (Windjana Gorge), Silent Grove and Manning Gorge are operating. Book ahead, both your vehicle and your campgrounds, during this window.

Wet Season

Roughly October to April

The wet season brings monsoonal rain, and many unsealed roads including sections of the Gibb River Road can become impassable or close entirely. Some gorges and campgrounds close for the season. If you're travelling during this period, check current road conditions and talk to us about what's realistically accessible, we'd rather steer you right than have you turn back.

Shoulder Periods

August–September & October–November

Late in the dry season (August–September) is a popular time to travel, reliable conditions with slightly fewer crowds than the July peak. Early wet season (October–November) can still work for sealed-road travel around Derby and Broome even once the Gibb starts becoming unreliable.
